SHEconomy Politics
In cooperation with our Washington network, SHEconomy invites female executives to an exclusive deep dive into American politics.
Join us for three days beyond the headlines, with people we trust to give us the full picture of where the US is today and where it may be going tomorrow.

The program will be limited to few executive participants, and all meetings will be conducted under Chatham House Rules, in order to facilitate an open exchange of views.

We will hear from seasoned observers and government officials who can analyze US policies and help us understand the effects on Norway and the rest of the world.

We will visit power players on Capitol Hill, inside the Trump administration and in organizations that will shape the policies of the next decade. And we will return home with new insight into what the next few years might bring, and how this will impact all of us.

Program
  • Day 1: Inside politics
Join us ten months into the Biden presidency as we dive into the Washington world of politics and find those who can provide a deeper understanding of America anno 2022-23. We will explore the legacy of Trump, the bitter divides on Capitol Hill and the ambitious agenda of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. We will visit “Bidens think-tank”, peek into the hidden world of presidential debates, dine and mingle with Republican politicians and strategists, and discuss the role of women in politics with those supporting the record number of women recruited to run for office last year. And we will meet with key congressional aides caught inside the Capitol when it was attacked on January 6th, to hear their stories and thoughts on what this watershed moment may mean for American politics in the years to come.
  • Day 2: US and Europe
Four years of Trump left US-Europe relations deeply shaken and possibly forever changed. Will Joe Biden be able to rebuild the trust among his allies? Has the US returned as the steadfast post-WWII partner we knew, or has the Trump presidency’s deep divides left longer-term scars? We will explore these questions and much more with partners at the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Stuart Center, influential voices on Capitol Hill, diplomats and independent American and Nordic media representatives in Washington.
  • Day 3: Tech and trade

Sustainability, climate change, equality and workers’ rights are key components of the Biden/Harris trade agenda. China is a top concern, as is the rebuilding of strong trade relationships with allies. We will explore the trade challenges facing the US now with current and former trade officials, experts on Capitol Hill and organizations providing new ideas for the Biden administration.

We will also take a closer look at the role of the tech industry in Washington. While Silicon Valley used to have limited interest in and influence on the goings-on in Washington, tech firms have now emerged as major players on the political stage. We will meet with some of the most influential lobbyists representing these firms and hear their take on tech and trade policy in the US and in Europe.
